The National Film Board settlement.jpg

An Act of Parliament by the Canadian Government created the National Film Board (NFB) in 1939. The NFB’s mandate is to make films about Canada for Canadians and people in other countries. The NFB makes films about social issues. They make documentary films and animation films. The NFB has made over 5,000 films. Many schools and educational TV programs show NFB films in their classrooms. Several of their films are of interest to Newcomers to Canada. These films include ‘An Idea of Canada’ and ‘Growing up Canadian’.
In Toronto, the NFB has a viewing centre called ‘ The NFB Mediatheque’. Everyone is welcome to come here and view NFB films for $2.00 per day. It’s located at 150 John Street in downtown Toronto. You can call the NFB Mediatheque at (416) 973-5344 for more information.
